Corporate Social Responsibility Community Support

Every so often “normal” as it relates to incentive travel, meetings and events is redefined, invariably as a result of events over which we have little or no control. North Americans, whose generosity in times of crisis is legendary, have over recent years extended that generosity to a corporate desire to give back to the less fortunate in the countries that host our meetings and events and to leave a corporate legacy that can extend for generations.

TTM’s partner DMCs are each developing program ideas to embrace Corporate Social Responsibility in their own destination. For example in Lillydale, in South Africa, Walthers Creative DMC is a supporter of many such projects, one being the Sam Nzima primary school and the new high school building that will comprise four tiny classrooms under construction on a stop-start basis as funds are raised. Sam Nzima, who is originally from Lillydale, fled back there after he was put on a wanted list because his photograph of children shot by the security forces in 1996 featured on the front cover of Time Magazine and resonated around the world. Any program that includes a stay at the Sabi Sands game lodges has easy access to the school and so can incorporate assisting with the new classrooms to digging in the organic garden that Walthers has created to a soccer match with the locals. Sam Nzima, now in his mid-seventies, enjoys little recognition for the photos he took that day or the persecution he suffered thereafter. But, health permitting, Sam is happy to spend time with the participants of an incentive travel program who commit to the school to leave a special lasting memory for them and to help with funding more work in the future.

In Italy, Studio Iter DMC has joined up with four leading non-governmental organizations to assist in the development of projects to sustain the sensitive architecture, the historical treasures that date back centuries and the environment, which combined are the very fabric of the country that so many millions come to visit. But “visit” is a word that’s alien to Studio Iter who instead place emphasis on “experience”, to experience and live the magic of this glorious country as an Italian, not as a visitor, and to preserve its unique beauty and splendor for generations to come. Studio Iter believes that the love of Italy comes from the soul – not an admission ticket!
